DSLR Shopping - here we go

pretty much narrowed it down to the Canon 7d and 70d.

I know the 7d is an older camera and is being phased out, but there are some really good prices on it in the current market. Still good enough that my Sis-n-law still shoots it and shes a professional photographer.

I want to stay Canon, since she is a reliable source that i can go to for some "how to" help. However...she is a wedding and portrait photographer. Im gonna be shooting ball games, dance competitions and outdoor stuff.

Im planning on buying the camera and lens kit for now...just to learn the camera. I know im probably buying a little more camera than my current ability, but want a camera that I can grow into and beyond. main objective is photography...the video feature is just a bonus..although i might like it since its handy. but definitley still shots is the priority

I went down this road once...but decided to do something else. so now the money is back there and gonna purchase by this weekend.

The two cameras are pretty close in price at the place Im buying. Am i biting off more than i can chew??? Which of these 2 would serve me better?

    budget is $1000

Between the two I would go with the latest technology. I have a 70D and it's a great camera especially for the price. Like the touch screen and ability to set it up and shoot from my phone or tablet remotely. Having said that, I also own a 7DmkII and it's a great camera and the one I use most of the time but out of your budget. I haven't seen what prices are on the 7D but I assume you are talking used or can you still buy it new? I know there are several here that use the 7D with excellent results and they will probably chime in soon.

I found a new 7d about an hour away with a 28-135 IS USM lens for less than a grand

I also like that magnesium housing the 7d offers. Plus it's sealed. I wouldn't worry about it getting wet

I say go for it then. I'm sure some of the 7D users will comment if you wait.

I really liked my 7D. I need to get it out and put it to use again. It's still a great camera that takes great pics. Like you, I like more stout frames as well.
