My son graduates in a couple of weeks. His wish list consists of a nice camera, or the Xbox One. lol I'm going with the camera. It needs to be digital and high pixel?? I know nothing about cameras. My 'all in' budget is 600.00. I would like to get him something that he wouldn't have to spend a ton of money on lenses - like an all inclusive type camera. I think it is very obvious now that I am clueless. HAHA!! Any suggestions?

Is he looking for a camera to take around with for the everyday adventure (compact, waterproof, etc...)? Or is he looking for something like a bulky SLR camera?
For everyday use I would recommend looking into one of the waterproof cameras. I enjoy having my Nikon Coolpix AW100. Its great to never worry about rain or water adventures. They may have a better camera available now, but when I bought mine this one came highly recommended. And it is far cheaper than your $600 budget.

You can search around, but I've found that Amazon has some good basic packages on their site. For $600 you can typically get a decent camera with 2 lenses. I am in no way an expert on SLR cameras, but I think that this would be a good start. Once his interest grows in photography the real money can be spent on better quality lenses.

If you have a little coin left over, might think about getting him a subscription to Adobe's Photoshop / Lightroom cloud. It's 10$/month... http://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography.html
There are other programs that can do most of what Adobe's products do, but these are the industry standards.
But the Cannon link above on Amazon is a really great place to start for anyone interested in something better than a point and shoot camera. Plus any lenses that he buys for it will fit any other cannon body. Even the really expensive ones... so it better to spend money in lenses (plus they have a HUGE impact on the photo quality).
But then again, I don't make my living taking photos so my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

There are a couple great options that you have available.
1. If he wants a bigger camera, with interchangeable lenses, this is a great kit to choose right now because it is on sale. It is also a GREAT starter kit!
2. This is just a cool, fun, hip, young person camera. (I really want one even though I'm no spring chicken anymore) that does have interchangeable lenses, but it is a smaller camera. Super fast on taking pictures, lightweight and it is mirrorless (which probably doesn't mean anything to you, but that is new technology) It is a hair over your budget (the kit with the 2 lenses) but there is also a kit with just 1 lens that is within your budget. This is also a new release.
3. This on is the same concept at #2, but it has been "replaced" with a newer model, so it is on sale, it also comes with 2 really nice lenses.
4. The last choice is a great camera, but it doesn't have interchangeable lenses. It does, however, take some great shots and is a lot lower on your budget range.
Hope I didn't confuse you more!

I know he said he is "in to photography" but dont be afraid to NOT max out your budget. Go inexpensive now, and if he still loves it 6 months to a year later get him something a little nicer. just my 2 cents, my mom got me a lot of stuff i "thought i was into" just to find out later it is a great dust collector.
