After 2 years, and encountering this buck numerous times, I finally got a decent shot of him. The first time I saw the buck this year there was no mistaking him, as his antlers were almost identical to last year, and coupled with his knack to evade having his picture taken left no doubt. Somehow he always managed to keep a tree branch or other obstruction in between him and my camera. There were a few times I was able to snap a picture, but the focus was not ever right.
Like last season, he broke a brow tine this year in addition to the end of his main beam from fighting. He is most definitely the dominant buck in the area. I saw him again shortly after he dropped his antlers, which I did not find, as he processed to “engage” and run off another respectable buck that still had his antlers.
