When you rent the Dodge in Los Angeles and drive from LA to San Antonio to drop it off. That was one of my few "off road" rests taken during the trip. That scene is exactly 45 miles South East of El Paso. The distant mountains are the last bastion of Texas range before you hit the Rio.
It has a special meaning to me.....excellent memories....with further memories of the South West, beyond the borders of West Texas.
Nailing down the boundaries of all the different regions of Texas is always a debate. Some people think Brownwood and Brady are West Texas, even though the geographical center of the state is right between those two Central Texas towns. Those folks usually call anything west of I-35 West Texas. In my mind, Highway 277 is as good as any other marker to define the eastern edge of West Texas. Then there's "Far West Texas", which is the Trans-Pecos region....
What if we dont live in west texas
how far west do we have to be
The OP said it's, "what best encompasses "West Texas." If I didn't just come from there, I would look for something that encompasses or says "West Texas." The way I interpret it is that it doesn't actually have to come from there, it only has to say "West Texas" when you look at it. If I'm wrong in my interpretation, perhaps the OP can clear it up. Just my .02¢

Thanks for clarifying...I have been out of town. Yes, needs to be more of a looks like and reminds of West Texas, than a specific geographical region.
