    All Around Lens Question

I need a lens that will work for a variety of situations, mostly family shots in the house and on vacation. I borrowed a friends 28-70 f/2.8 Sigma and liked it. It has since broken, so I need something similar of my own. What would be best? I can get that lens for $800, a 24-120 Nikon for $1300, or a used 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 Nikon for $300. I'm having a tough time justifying the extra $1k and I like the wide zoom range. Is the fixed f-stop of 4 worth it? D90 for now, using my SB600 most of the time.

Fixed f/stop with wider aperture like f/4 or f/2.8 (better) is nice. Usually those lenses have higher quality glass and build as well. Kinda like getting a Swarovski scope versus a Weaver. Whether it's worth the extra $ or not is up to the individual.

I'm holding out for a Nikon or Tamron 70-200 f/2.8.

They take some awesome pictures in every condition I have used them in.

I bought this lens for my Canon and absolutely love it. Sigma 50-150 2.8 Lamp light is the only light in the room for this photo.
