    Need tripod recommendations

I'm in the market for a new tripod. I've been using one that belongs to the guy I film for but I want one of my own. It's primarily for a Canon XLH1a video camera. I'm going to use a Manfrotto 502HDV fluid head but I go back and forth on the tripod itself. I'd like to stay under $600-$700 so, since the head is about $200, that means under $500 for the tripod itself. I want something that'll go pretty low, so I can film run-and-gun type hunting and set it up in front of me while sitting on the ground.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure how heavy your camera is but if its not to heavy this is a good tripod at a great price. It goes lower than you would need and would be great for the run and gun style. I have been very happy with mine in ground blinds and stalking.

That's a great suggestion! I totally missed that one. The camera is pretty heavy (8.8lbs) but even with the 2lb head, it's well within the weight rating. I was looking at THIS ONE but it's a lot more expensive and it's only a couple pounds lighter. The features are very similar with a huge difference in price!

      Thanks for the suggestion!

Pretty sure that is the same model I have and it is pretty nice. A tad heavy compared to some of the lighter ones but very stable and well built.

Yeah, I go back and forth on whether or not to drop the $$ on a carbon fiber tripod. I don't actually use a tripod much for the filming we do - pretty much only for interviews. But, now that I want to do some self-fimed hunts, I'll be using one more often. But I'm not sure that the 2lb weight difference, between the CF model I linked above and this one, is really worth spending twice as much. If only I had a filming partner that had more free time! Lol!
