WD External Hard Drive 2TB Exploded

Was downloaded some footage from WD 2 TB hard drive and stepped into power cord plugged in and jerked it off the table and it hit the floor and exploded into pieces. Mostly the plastic casing. Cant get it to work. 850 gigs of video....GONE!!

Took the Hardrive to a place today n Houston called MicroCenter and they didn't seem to know what to do. I wonder if there is a place I can mail it to to see if it can be repaired? I don't think WD does that anymore. Bummed.

I have an older hard drive that the plug broke on and I can't retrieve what's on it either so my theory is to buy an identical hard drive and take it apart and put my old drive in the new one. Mine comes apart fairly easily (WD my book) and you take the little circuit board off and plug the new one into it...not sure if any of that made sense but basically if youre comfortable doing so maybe you can get an identical one and put your drive into the new one...if its not identical the control board may be different...hope this helps.

When my computer crashed I found a plug on Amazon that I plugged into the sata hard drive and down loaded all of my pictures onto my new hard drive. You should be able to find one to fit yours.

Do you know what it was called and how much it was? May be something I could use as well...

It's made by Cables To Go. USB 2.0 to IDE or SATA Drive Adaptor. It says it can handle all Types and Sizes of External Drives.

goto newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. They'll have what you need. I had the same thing happen a few years back. The cable will plug into the Sata connection on the hard drive, there's an external power supply cord. It will then plug into a usb port. It looks like a mess of wires but it works. Here's a link, hope it helps.
