PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND - first attempt at manual

Decided to expand my knowledge and skills with my canon t2i.

Read a little more and went out to shoot a few in manual mode.

    Did better than I expected:

Light house on PEI national park

My daughters in a wheat field

The wheat field with the gulf of st-Lawrence in the background

    Nice shots! Good job!

How about posting your settings and talk about how/why you chose them? Might help somebody else who is trying to learn manual mode.

I love PEI. Just because you don't see a speck of trash on the roadside. We look like animals in comparison.

Here goes the settings and why

Lighthouse: lens canon EFS 18-55 at 55mm. F5.6 since I wanted only the area near the lighthouse to be in focus. ISO 100 speed 1/640 to match the light conditions

Daughter 1: lens canon EF50mm 1.8, f4.5 so that the background gets somewhat blurry, 1/800 ISO 100 to match the light and fast speed to stop the movement from the wind on her hair and wheat

Daughter 2: same lens, a little faster 1/1000 and got the same effect

Field, lens canon EFS 18-55 at 55mm, f22 to increase my depth of field so that bother foreground and background are in focus. iSO 100 1/32 sec. Had to slow my speed due to my smaller aperture, could a boosted my IS0 some to reduce the effect of wind movement but this is an afterthought next time I would shoot this with my ISO,at 400 or 800 so that. My speed could be closer to 1/60 or faster
