    Painted buntings

I only saw one male during spring which was a disappointment but they have shown during fall migration headed back to Mexico. Adult males, immature males, females, and immature birds. I am in a place where I will see many species during the migrations.

I have a lot of them on the San Saba River west of Menard in the late spring and summer. I have seen as many as 7 males on the bird feeder and ground beneath at on time. One of my favorite birds. I also love the Vermillion Fly Catchers.
              Adios,

Vermilions are another great bird, Gary. A friend says photographing them is like photographing a red light bulb, and they are right.
