    Prickly Pear Harvest Time

Thinking about making jelly from these. They are looking good, even through the drought!

Sounds good...how do you deal with the thorns on the pears themselves?

X2. I've always had them already prepared. How do you prepare them yourself?

Gonna harvest a batch this weekend. I cut the thorns out with a small blade knife. I will post up a recipe when I begin the jelly process...WITH PICS!

Was up at the lease 3 weeks ago and my buddy picked about 4. We took them back and sliced the skin off. ...my first time eating them and I would have to say they were excellent. Who knew. The mexicans call them cactus tuna.

You can use a torch to burn the tiny thorns off before you pick them. You still need to skin them, but at least you wont get as many stickers that way.
