    Beginner SLR Digital Camera

This probably gets asked alot but whats a good SLR digital camera for a beginner? Is Nikkon or Cannon Better?

My $.02 - Ford or Chevy? Both very good - I started w/Canon so that is where I have stayed. I actually prefer and think you get better options w/Canon glass. Try both and buy the one that feels the best to you

Yep, Nikon and Canon both make great cameras. Glass is equal. I agree, hold them both in your hands. Play around with the controls. One will fit you better, just like a bow. Pick that brand. UNLESS you have a friend that shoots the other. Then pick that brand so you can borrow lenses from him.

The D3000 is Nikon's starter DSLR. Less than $500 with an 18-55 lens.

I've got a Canon T1i and don't have any complaints.

Same here. I have the Canon T1i. It's been a great camera.

That is excellent advice. It's all about lenses. Most any SLR camera body will capture nice images. Having a buddy with a lens collection would be great.

Scotty has great advise...find a new friend that has some lenses you can borrow. I also have the Canon T1i. Pick a brand and run with it though.

Here is what I have found:

I shoot film with my dads F3 and loved it. I rented a Cannon and Nikon DSLR in the past and was blessed by Scotty with a NIkon D70s so I choose Nikon. Both are excellent equipment. It's all in the glass. If you could fix a nice lens on a point and shoot 5mp you would still get a good pic.

With Nikon your lens options are limited to Nikon or 2 other makers with cannon you have a few more options. I like Nikon over the Cannon simply because it feels better in my hand however, both are awesome. Get what you can afford and upgrade from there. You will not regret either decision.
