    Nikon Lens Question

I'm looking to get the D5100 which comes with an 18-55mm.

If you were going to add one lens to help shooting from a tree stand or blind for outdoor shots what would it be?

I will stay on the side and keep up with the answers.

Just bought a 50mm 1.8 this am for night shots and to blur back ground.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. If you are going to be shooting in low light the price just went up by a substantial amount. You will be looking at the $1000 and up range depending if you buy used or new and if you want VR. If you are new to photography you need to understand that you will be spending money like you never imagined if you are wanting to produce quality wildlife images such as deer and turkey since most of those shots will come under low light conditions. If you just want something to capture the image then that is a little cheaper. By the way I would buy just the body and pick up the lens that you are looking for as I went along a little at a time and I would start with the nifty 50 f/1.8 for about the same price as the 18-55. By the way the cheapest zoom lens is called stealthness. Check out B&H Photo they have pretty good reviews on their site and are usually the cheapest but I have found their customer service to be top notch.
Good luck to you and keep us posted.

          Thanks,
I'm not sure on the price limit because I'm not sure what I'll want.
I do like the idea of getting just the body and then lenses to fit what I want to do.

Look at the Nikkor 18-200VR F/3.5-5.6. It combines the 18-55 & 55-200 together. Its a great all around lens and you wont be swapping between the two.
