    Photoshop vs Lightroom

I'm looking to get some photo editing software for my wife and I. What are the major differences between PS and LR? And digging deeper, what will PS 9 do that PS 8 wont? What will LR 3 do that LR v.3.0 won't? We are currently amateurs, but my wife has aspirations to do some photoshoots. We shoot a Canon Rebel XTi. Thanks!!

Lightroom is much more user-friendly and more centered around photography than Ps is. It's more intuitive to use as well as cheaper. Lr 3 is better than version 2. Minor things, but worth it. Better noise reduction, a few little shortcut things, etc...

If you haven't seen the video for the new content aware feature in Adobe's Photoshop CS 5, check it out. IMO, they really out did themselves in this release. If you don't mind spending the money, this would be a great tool to have as it makes editing pictures allot easier than in the past.

You can go to Adobe Lightroom on the web and there are many, many video tutorials to get you started. LR is pretty intuitive so once you go through several tutorials you will begin to pick it up pretty quickly.

Wow! That's impressive! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea it could do that.

CS5 is pretty impressive, but LR3 is easier to use.....ideally you would have LR3 to blast through multiple small edits such as exposure, black levels, etc. and then use CS5 to make large changes to the pictues such as content aware fill, swapping heads in photographs, etc.

I think I am going to pick up a Apple computer that I can finally upload pictures on with some speed to it so now I am looking at Lightroom 3 editing software. Where is the best place/price to pick one of those up.

All retail stores are going to be the same on price. If you are in school, or have a student in the family, this is the way to go...

You have to provide proof that you or a child is in school. Grade school, High School, or College. It doesn't matter. You get the full version of Lightroom 3.

Adobe now lets you use the full versions on a subscription basis. You can pay month to month and only use it in the month you need it, or you can pay for a year's subscription which gives you a better monthly rate. I think I'm going to give this a try.
