Return of the Fence Bird Series

    Poor light this evening
This Cedar Waxwing let me walk right up to it. I noticed that it's behavior seemed a little odd. When inspecting the images I noticed that its lower bill had been broken and was hanging down 90 degrees. Perhaps a breeding activity accident? Hope he does well.

Less than 24 hours later I observed the bird actively feeding. Again He/She let me get close:

        A little wet this AM.

Close-up of the damage to the birds lower beak:

Poor birdie.... Nice photos, though! Hope he makes it.

          One interesting note...
As a kid, Cedar Waxwings were thick in my neighborhood. They would fly in large groups. One day a group was flying by and I hummed a rock at them as they buzzed by.. The rock hit one and killed him stone dead in flight. I was so proud of myself until I picked him up and saw how beautiful he was.. Then I felt bad!
          Lesto!!

Too many pretty ones fell victim to my BB gun as a kid. Now it's much neater to preserve them in pixels.

That was me with Bluebirds.... I was quite a shot with my BB gun. I used most of my birds for bait.

Very nice, Bill. I had a whole flock of cedar waxwings feasting on the holly berries on a bush in front of my office today. The mockingbird that usually sits on top of that bush was sitting on a different bush (with no berries) across the sidewalk. He sat there looking like a homeowner that had been kicked out of his house by a band of thugs.

Those cedar waxwings are beautiful birds. I wished I'd have had my camera with me when I saw them. I'm glad you had yours. I can't wait to see the next bird that graces your fence.

I'm thinking I've become a tree hugger when it comes to birds. However, if they can catch a channel cat?

                    They do love those berries!
                    Thanks Shane.

I saw my first Cedar Waxwings the other day at Old Tunnel WMA outside of Fredericksburg, TX. Handsome birds.

Nice shots, Bill. However, I'm afraid that bird has a pretty tough row to hoe.
