    Internet or Camera Store

Where is the best place to buy a camera and equipment? There are some good deals on the internet but you never know what you are going to get. Where do you buy yours?

www.cameta.com or www.bhphotovideo.com You will save the tax dollars which will add up. They have the same warranties as in store.

I buy all my camera gear at B&H unless I HAVE to have it today. Then I go to Precision Camera in Austin.

It's kind of like private bowshops vs. internet archery stores...if you want/need the personal touch of working with experts at a camera store, then by all means, use them. Besides, it will help keep your money in your community. If you don't feel the need for this personal touch, then you can generally save a wad of money on internet sales. They both have their pros and cons.

If you know what you want online may be cheaper but otherwise I have to see and hold a camera before I purchase one. I am not one to care about alot of fancy options. Just a nice 10 to 18 zoom with automatic focus that takes good pics.

I've been browsing Craigslist for a few local scores....some pretty decent used camera bodies can be found there as well.

I like to shop out of state online for new gear.....no tax and some have no shipping fees.

I agree - craigslist does have some good prices from time to time.
I also don't like to pay that tax and free shipping is nice when you can get it.

+1 for B&H. Ordered almost all of my stuff through them. They can usually beat most store prices and as mentioned have the same warranties on products. Just ordered a battery grip from them today and found it about $35 cheaper than a place in Ft. Worth. Also had free shipping.

Bout ours on ebay saved like 400 dollars over best buy. The camera was brand new in box!

Is it safe to buy a used DSLR? What should I look out for?

I know B&H sells used/refurbished gear and company called KEH sells used stuff as well. If you go with a reputable company, you shouldn't have any issues. Probably not from an individual either, but repairs can get real expensive.
