I'm at the point that I can see the difference between a basic good photo and a great one that has been processed. What software does everyone use and why? Ease of use is nice.
TIA
Most of the basic stuff (cropping, white balance, color, exposure, brightness and contrast adjustments) I do in Lightroom 2. If I want to get "creative" I use Photoshop Elements. I bought a book about photography work flow using Lr. It's good to develop a system and it's important to have the options and settings in Lr make sense for what you're doing. Also important is setting up a good system for directories and file structure. You can save a lot of time if you think it all through before you dive in. Otherwise, you can spend a lot of redundant time. I'm still learning Lr, but I already know the most important pig trails.
The biggest change is shooting in RAW. Don't know if you're already doing that, but it allows you a lot more after-the-shot flexibility. With that comes big files. So it's also important to think about storage and a fail-safe backup system. Good luck!
Photoshop CS4.
I shoot in all Raw and have the Raw plugin for it. I am currently playing with Photoshop actions, buying some and making some of my own, to speed up development.
