    Camera help

We have an old Kodak Easy Share, don't even know which one other than its 4 megapixels. It takes great outdoor pics and my wife has taken tons of my son playing baseball. It is terrible indoors. She tried to take pics of my daughter playing volleyball and basketball and they stink. I don't know much about cameras, but tried several different light settings and they still stink. She wants a camera to do both in and out well and there is a Black Friday deal for a D3000 Nikon for $399. Is that a good camera and a good deal or is there a better way to go. I am not looking to spend a fortune, but any advice would be great!

I'd be interested in thoughts on the D3000 as well. I was looking at the D5000 also. Thinking about getting back into photography, but not wanting to break the bank. Back in the day, my old Nikon 2000 was killer, but is a little outdated now...
