Started changing the focus and shutter settings

I've been "trying" to get different pictures and learn all of the settings on my camera

I have a Canon SX100IS and it's way more than I can handle as for as settings. I feel like I need to go back to school to learn all of this. I looked at maybe upgrading to another camera, but theres a ton of things I can still learn with this one... anyways here's a picture, I was trying to get a picture that started "blurry" than into focus and then blurry again, or not in focus (I'm not sure if there's a correct word for this action) here's what I got so far.
