My wife wants a SLR camera I was looking at the nikon D90 and the D3000. THe second is smaller and less $$$ but it says it does not have it own motor for auto focus. Does anyone have either and can give some guidence.

I have the D90, and it is the superstar in the DX world.
If you were between the D90 and the D3000, I would easily say the D90...
If you are leaning towards the D3000, then check out the D5000.... from what I hear it is the "updated" version of the D90... but I haven't shot either D3000 nor the D5000....
All I know is that you cannot go wrong with the D90. It will be around a while. -

I have the D80 and Ilike it. The D90 has the ability to take HD videos. LIke that. Dont know much about the upper end models out of my price range.
If you are going to but the VR lenss I believe they are all powered so the body doesnt have to be. You can buy some older glass for cheaper money that isnt powered vs the newt powered ones. Are you sure the body on the D90 isnt powered. I thought it was.

Can't go wrong with the d90. I have the d60 because it was the best one with the smaller camera body. Are you looking for a new purchase or a used one?Comment

I was looking for a new one with a couple of lenses to get started. I found one on line at supreme camera for 999.99 with a 18-55 and a50-200 lens. I am always worried about buying on line.Comment

X2 on B&H camera online out of New York. I bought my D80 from them and came as a kit with the 18-55 and 55-200 VR lenses. I also bought a used 200-500mm Tamron les from them for only $600. They have an excellent "used" section online with some great deals.
