Video camera recommendations

Folks,
I am trying to find a good camera to record my bow hunts. I will need to be able to operate the camera myself while hunting. Go pro has far too wide an angle to generate a good view of impact shots. Any recommendations?

Get on Amazon and get a cheap Sony. I bought one that came with SD cards, case, tripod and several other things for 100 bucks. It's 1080HD with awesome zoom and great picture!

Also came with cords to plug into TV to view shots at camp!

Several good options, depending on price range, from various vendors.

Some things to consider:

1. Low light performance - larger sensor generally equates to better performance.
2. Optical zoom - don't get caught up in digital zoom
3. Image stabilization - most camcorders have them these days.
4. Wi-Fi connection to phone. Allows you to control camera using phone, plus transfer photos/videos to phone (or tv).

Beyond the camera, give consideration to stabilization as well. Use a good tripod, head and/or camera arm to keep your video steady.

Recommendations will also depend on what your intended delivery is. Are you wanting something to record for fun and share with family or lease members? Will you be editing and publishing for web delivery on YouTube or Vimeo? Or even more professionally for tv or DVD?

Thanks for the thoughts. just using this footage to verify impact point and share with friends. I have a good camcorder
But really interested in something I can mount on a head strap or similar.

I have a spot and stalk bear hunt in April in Alaska. Gonna be kinda hard to drag a tripod along and certainly won't have time to set it up before taking a shot.

Anybody have experience with these specific cameras??

You may want to look at the stabilizer camera for the bear hunt. I don't know anything about them but have been looking, good luck!

Thanks. I have looked at the stabilizer cams too, but when you release your arrow, there is massive vibration on the camera which shakes the image and makes it difficult to see the impact...

Not sure if you've already gone through the settings of the GoPro, but you can actually adjust the field of view to be less of a wide-angle shot if that helps. I feel like with most of the small cams you'll probably run into similar issues of wide angles. I too would avoid mounting the cam on the bow though. Lots of vibration at the shot with those.

Other option is to pay for my ticket, and I'll bring my Canon XA20 along for the ride and video the shot!

The accessories for me are just as important as the camera to record my own hunts. I could not get as many hunts recorded if not for the corded remote I have for my Sony. It allows me to turn the camera on/off, zoom in/out, start and stop recording. This also allows me to mount the camera away from me and I don't have to move around to mess with it.

Next is the Trophy Tools Clamp. This just makes it easy to mount it anywhere. I don't have to mess with a tripod and can set it up quickly.

For the camera I have a Sony 430V that I have liked a lot.

Just saw your other posts. Most of the above doesn't apply for what you want it for.

Doubles as a low impact walking stick. also have a really nice, pristine Sony 550 handy cam for sale. You will not be happy with the low light capabilities of the small bow/hat mount cameras without stabilization.
