How Often To Clean Heads?

I just bought a new camera that records on mini dv. Previously I have been using a sony dvd camera. How often should I clean the heads? The reason I ask is because after I used it this past weekend (only my second weekend to use the camera) I started getting lines through my videos when playing it back. After I cleaned the heads with the head cleaning tape it was fine. Is this something I should do often, or will it hurt the camera?

I've been told not to clean them too often. I will usually clean my after a dusty weekend in the field, as well as blow the cam out with compressed air. Other than that I just run a head cleaner about avery 10-15 hours or so. I've heard folks that do it more and some that do it less.
