Are 3 at 1/6" that much better for low light than 1 at 1/6"?

YES! Each individual ccd is a register for the red,green & blue colors and regulates how much color and light each one gathers and generates and records. A single ccd is using a splitter\prism so the math is easy 3 to 1 wins every time!
A 'broadcast' quality camera has ccd's of 2\3" size compared to the 1\3 size of prosumer and consumer cameras so the quality of the recording and info and light put to tape is mucho grande more......

Thank you very much Pat. Panasonic is reducing their 3CCD cameras due to the release of the newer HD models so it looks like I may be upgrading without a bunch of hurt.
