    Blinds

OK, for some more hunting stuff, here's some blinds that I hunted out of this year.

This is my Dry Pond tower. I killed my San Angelo 9 point out of this blind. It's been there for 6 years. I hunt it A LOT, no matter the wind. As most of you know, I don't believe in burning out blinds or "hunting the wind". As long as you hunt one right, the deer just keep coming. This is a long open bottom that usually is dry, hence the name. It grows a lot of greenery during the year, espeicially cockle burs. There are crossings all up and down the pond where deer cross. It's behind my corn feeder about 200 yards. I hand chum it. A lot of the pics that I get every year come from this blind.

It's a telescoping tower that my brothers made while I watched. LOL. they let me tighten screws and paint and hold stuff, but that's all. It's put in a mesquite/hackberry thicket and uses 4 guide wires with turnbuckles to stabilize it. Also, a ratchet strap keeps it attached to the tree at about head height. It has a set that is attached to a base with EMT post that goes into the next size EMT base welded to the platform. With vaseline, applied, it swivels quietly. I use army camo net in several layers to further the camo effect and I cut shooting holes in the camo.

I'm in the blind when this was taken.

This gives an idea of the length of the opening. An oasis of edge in the middle of a mesquite thicket. I love it!

It's not always dry. I've had ducks swimming under me during hunts and have had bucks running does, splashing as they go back and forth and up and down the "pond".

When it get water and it drys up, it can be a green oasis. Only problem is that the cows like it also.

Keep it coming Tuthdoc. I have learned a lot from you over the years. I hope to get back to the San Angelo area to hunt in the future. I really miss our 6000 acre San Angelo lease!

Here's the ground blind where I killed my 10 point in south Texas. I found this area in August. Found some shed and old rubs. I set the blind and started chumming it every time I went to the ranch. It paid off.

As you can see, I didn't bring in a lot of brush and build this blind up. The deer had plenty of time to get used to it before I started hunting it. The safari system on the carbon Venture works very wll. I had as many as 12 bucks around me at one time. I'll take it down in a month, but you can bet it'll be back up in August, in the same spot.

These are "deer's eye views" of my three shooting holes. I don't usually shoot over 20 yards and all these shots are that or closer. I had deer so close to me I was afraid to breathe.

Yep, he's dead. Those pics were from a couple years ago. He had to raise his head after picking up corn and let it trickle back so he could chew it.

This is a pic of my homemade, panel blind at my Road Feeder corn feeder. It's just finished its 7th season. I had to replace the roof this past summer and had to reposition it a little after a calf got in it and screwed it up some. The netting gets rearranged every year, but other than that, it's ready to go. I've killed quite a few turkeys and culls from this blind. I've seen some really nice bucks here, just haven't killed any. This is the blind where I videoed my 06 9 the first time I saw him. The group of trees from the window is a mesquite thicket that I call "the killling tree". It's no more than 12 yards from my blind and I usually kill a couple does and turkeys there every year.

OK, that's a tower, a pop-up, and a homemade blind. I don't have many places to use them, but here's a Lock-on that I have in the river. It's where I killed Hogzilla and took the videos of the Kicker 10. I have a pole feeder about 18 yards from it. I'll spend lots of time in this stand next year looking for the Kicker 10. This picture was taken last year. This year, I added climbing sticks instead of screw steps. I'm older and not as agile as I once was, and the sticks make it easier. Plus, screw steps in pecan trees really scare me. I moved the base of the stand a little more to the right so I can stand between the two limbs that you see. I can sit on the lower big limb and rest on the smaller high limb. There was a time I could get in a stand like that and stand still for hours, but the legs won't let me do it now. For a couple hours in the evening and a couple hours in the morning, I can be a statue. More than that, I have to sit. It's open and I use the tree for a background, so being still is a MUST. The second pic shows my pole feeder with directional throwing timer. It also has my camera on it. that's the kicker 10 standing at less than 18 yards.
