As the rumors have said there was blood spilled, I guess there's no point in putting this part off. However, as chronology goes, this was pretty much the beginning.
Bobby and I got in bed by 2 AM from Houston, an improvement of an hour and a half from week two. All our stuff was there and we had little to do. Bobby was planning on killing the long beamed 8 that I had passed twice and he had passed in his first 15 minutes of his first hunt.
JamesL had kept our road in front of the blind corned for us during his stay, so the animals were still in the same mode we had left them. We chummed with corn and chaffehay and I was getting ready to pull our and run the road feeder and Bobby was messing around. I told him he better get in the blind because in the short time I had been running the road feeder, the deer had already associated it with groceries. He jumped in the blind and within minutes whitetail, hogs, and axis poured in.
He said before the hunt that he wanted a big bowed buck. He liked the long beam deer and its mass, but when this rascal came into his shooting area, he made his mind up that he was the one. It took quite some time to get a clear shot, but when he did, he sent a 3 blade Rage quartering up into the opposite shoulder. The deer ran about 75 yards and piled up. The hole was too graphic for civilized folk to look upon, but let's say it was about fist big. A quick measure showed him to be 30 outside, 34 and 35 inch beams. His tines were longer than we thought, but I can't remember the measurements. We figure upper 40's at least.
Here's some LDP's, including my favorite pose, the tailgate pic.
