    What protein pellet for deer?

I'm going to start one protein feeder, next to a corn feeder and free choice mineral. What protein pellet is recommended and what's it going to cost per bag?

Usually for horses we feed a 14%, how does this compare to "deer protein"?

So that does bring up a question- this is an attractant and bonus feed, I'm not going to be feeding enough on our low fence place to effectively make a difference in antler growth (to my understanding).

Could you use 14% horse pellet? The deer at our saddle barn are always coming in to clean up the pellet feed and sweet feed that the horses drop...that being said, I cannot recall how much a bag of the horse feed is, but I think $9?

Sounds like you just need to sling corn

Deer will definitely eat sweet feed. May-September I would feed Antlermax20 or if your local feed store carries it try GamePro. I feed year round however the main consumption is summer months. AntlerMax20 is a really good feed and for $12-$15/50# it’s worth it! Currently my 300# BossBuck feeder is emptied within 10 days.

If you want to cut back some cost mix it 50/50 with corn.

Thanks for the tips. As I said this is more of an experiment. I may try different products for each fill and keep a record of consumption. I'll get a game camera put up over it too.

Are coons a problem on your Boss Buck?

Lyssy and Eckel if you have that as an Option.
i go to the store in Poth and it is about $10.50 per bag.

My FIL pours Cottenseed meal pellets in troughs and they eat it so anything is better than nothing.

                        Coonhoods are the best.

The deer around my area hit the protein a couple times a day for only a few bites each time. I use maybe a bag a month so it's not bad for me.

Do you have water near by your protein?

Not yet. I have a coon hood but have yet to install it.
