I have several from Big Horn Metals....I have lots of pictures of them eating protein off the ground but not a single picture of them eating out of the spout.
If it is coon proof it is deer proof. Quick internet search found these 3 pics. I think in the 28 years I have feeding protein that I have seen used on a ranch or personally used every protein feeder manufactured. Many make claims but none were ever coon proof.
On my 55 gal drum protein feeders, I added a 5 gal plastic bucket on the down spout and never had another coon in 7 years. I had to make sure the spilled protein on the ground didnt build up too much because the bigger coons could reach up and grab the feed spout and pull themselves up. I ended up putting some pavers under all the feeder legs to get them off the ground a few more inches.

So do they just have nowhere to sit and eat it? I guess I'd need to see the thing to understand it better.
I think rtp has the right idea - limit their ability to sit on the spouts and limit their ability to reach up from the ground. I like the protein heads on Krivoman feeders and All Seasons head because they limit where a coon can sit. I just installed a new feeder Friday. The legs are a long way from the feed spout.

Exactly. My buddy came up with the idea and I was skeptical. 22 feed stations and those buckets saved us from all the dang coons. They would just show up and eat the scraps on the ground.
Disregard the PVC pipe on my protein feeders. That was an earlier failed attempt to thwart the coons. Completely ineffective. Once the bucket went on, the buffet was closed.
Bulk Protein Deer Feeder with a unique innovation to maximize antler protection, minimize waste, and eliminate non-targeted species (raccoons, squirrels, hogs, and birds). Obviously the best feeding solution on the market!
