Tell me about drop tines

I'm sitting in my stand looking at a pretty nice buck with a broken off drop tine. He is a borderline shooter without the drop, with it I'd kill him for sure. I saw him a couple times in velvet when he had the drop and it was maybe 8" long. He is a 5.5y/o mainframe 10 with nice mass and width.

My question is what are the chances he will grow a drop tine again next year? Do y'all see them grow drops year after year or is it more hit or miss?

This one will get a pass this year.

From what I have seen and read, your guess is as good as mine. The odds are decent he will regrow it, I have seen buck carry them year to year and others, have in one year not the next and have it again when older. Very unpredictable. Good luck. I do like the drops.

no clue I've seen them move all over the horns, disappear one year, reappear the next
