Thoughts on building a tire roller?

I have access to as many no longer road worthy 18 wheeler tires as I need. I’m thinking 6-8’ wide to keep it manageble for different setups for pulling.

On a roller are they rim mounted then attached with bearings? This part has me drawing a blank.

4 pieces of drill stem welded into square the tires will just fit over, then some kind of end to attach bearing to

I know that is clear as mud but imagine a giant paint roller

Is this used a packer/smoother? I’m no farmer.

Man, after pricing metal and other components I think I’ll just use six to make a triangle drag. May secure a heavy rubber mat to the back to really make it purty.

I use five pickup tires for my drags. Be aware that they are going to get full of dirt eventually and truck tires would get really heavy.
