Thoughts on age of this deer? Brown county, first pic of him all season. Slim body but dark spots on leg. Thanks!

Looks like 4+ but the rut may have him looking younger than he is in the pic. Regardless still a great deer.

I personally think this time of year is hardest to age, with new deer. They are/have run rampant. Most bucks have lost 25%+ body weight. Our 2nd rut is just subsiding and you wouldn't recognize any of them without prior history.

That deer is 5.5 -6.5. Heavy rutter with that staining and I'd be willing to bet he looked A LOT different in early November. I see some breaking down of his ankles which suggests he's mature and used to holding a lot more body weight.

3 1/2-4 1/2 max. Chicken neck, pigeon chest. long legs, slender body. Let him walk 1 more year and if he is still an 8, cull him out.
