      Rather than looking at seeding new grass, how about getting what you have 'better'. You can do this by rotation grazing like someone mentioned, having a proper stocking rate, prescribed burning

        Great advice from Bobcat and others. The seed is already there. Fire is your friend.

        The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service and local Soil and Water Conservation District are always great places to seek advice.

          This is the worst thing you do for quail. Johnson grass has low cover value and the seeds aren't very nutritional (low oil content). Stick to the bluestems and other natives and your good to go.
