    Hunting Rifle question

Ok. Hear me out on this as I am learning as I go.

So I have a Savage 111 (270 caliber) rifle. A few years ago, I wanted to upgrade my scope. So I went with a Leupold vx3 4.5-14 50mm. What I soon realized is this scope isn't working well with this rifle. Let me explain.

In order to get good eye relief, I need to move the scope farther back. The challenge I keep having is the tube isn't long enough to bring the rear of the scope close enough to get me full FOV. I tried using a picatinny rail but I still can't get that sucker back far enough back and still get clearance on the front bell.

I've already invested in the scope, so that isn't changing. What rifle should I look at that will match this scope and not break the bank. $500 or less.

    Thanks.

Misery loves company. I am glad I am not the only one who is finding this challenge.

What height are the scope rings? Taller rings often allow the bell to clear.

Are you setting the eye relief with the rifle rested on a bench or with the rifle rested on the ground?

          I am using high rings.

I am trying to set eye relief while I have it shouldered.

The only possible solution I have found is using a rail riser on top of the picatinny rail.

I'm not sure exactly what is available for super extra high rings. I don't want to make this a rabbit hole if changing the rifle is the cheaper less complicated option.

Get you a offset mount. Burris, vortex make them.

Leupold used to make reverse front scope base that would allow you to move the scope rearward.

Or cut the Pic Rail and put some cold blue on the cut part.

Will that bring the scope far enough back?

Right now, I have it set up where the bell is sitting over the top of the front mounting holes of the picatinny rail. This is basically where I need my eye relief to be.

It should give you another 1 or 2 inches

Agreed. Have someone take pictures of you from different angles.

In this view, the scope is far enough back for eye relief, but the bell is too low.

Have you measured your LOP? What is the LOP of that rifle stock?
