    Trouble with restringing my bow

I have a Hoyt Nitrum Turbo. Max draw weight is 65 lbs. I had bought a new string from 60x a couple years ago. I finally decided to change them out a couple of weeks ago. I yoke tuned the top cam and got it level.
The bottom cam touched first when I drew back on the draw board. At first I put a few twists in the bottom cam control cable. I found out that was wrong. I untwisted it back and tried to get it to the specs written on the limb. It still seemed short, but seemed almost completely untwisted. I then started twisting the bottom cam buss cable. I finally fine tuned it to where both cams touched at the same time. I checked the draw weight, and now during the draw it pulls almost 80 lbs.

It is my first self performed string change. Recommendations?

Make sure to get your axle to axle measurement to spec.

Make sure your brace height is correct too

Measure the new string and cables.

I’m about 3/16 short on this.

              Gonna try that this weekend.

I read an article where you measured the cable 1/8 inch short than the listed length and the string 3/16 short.

Do you measure it like this or put 100 pounds of pressure on them, then measure exactly?

Since you’ve had them on your bow, they’re stretched pretty good. Just hook them onto something and measure. Twist or untwist to achieve spec. If you have to put too many twists in, or take too many out where the twist are vastly different, they may not have been built correctly, or are simply the wrong length. Pull pretty hard when measuring.

Did you order the length off the limb sticker? I only ask because the string length is specific to the 1, 2, and 3 cams. Sounds like you have too much preload on the bow.

                    Thanks for the feedback

Yes. I actually called and spoke to them about it, because the lengths posted online were in a different order than what was on the limbs.

I didn’t measure any lengths initially, I just kept them in the order that they were packaged in ( all 3 attached to a single paper clip).

I initially twisted the control cable trying to get one of the cams to touch. I found out that I needed to twist the buss cable. I lost track of how many twists that I needed to take out of the control cable. I untwisted it trying to get it to the length listed on the limb. I stopped untwisting when I seemed to have very little twist left. I never got it to the listed length.

I then started twisting the buss cable to time the cams. I finally got them in synch, but really increased the draw weight.

                              Updates
I took the all cables and strings off. Put them under 50 lbs of pressure on the draw board. I got the cables about 1/4 inch short of spec. I measured the string, but didn’t adjust the twists since I hadn’t adjusted it on my end. Put everything back on, and now I am good to go.
