    Trail Camera External Power

So I was looking at running a 12V 9Ah SLA battery and solar panel with a 12V to 6V reducer cable on my trail camera to extend the life, but for some reason my math isn't adding up and I need someone to educate me.

12V 9Ah SLA battery or same battery at 6V for 18AH

    12 AA Batteries at 2800 mAh = 33600 mAh or 33.6 Ah

So based on math the AA batteries would run twice as long as the SLA???

not exactly, when the AA batteries are in series AH is going to stay the same thru out the circuit. So if one of your AA battery has 2800 mah (which sounds really high) it is constant thru out the circuit. If you have 8 AA batteries with these stats your circuit will be 12 V @ 2800mah

    Hope that makes sense!

14 dogs plus 6 mailboxes doesn't equal sandwiches because aliens don't wear tree stumps..

      sorry I wasn't much help

You have to have 12v first. The amperage gives you longer life.
Most cameras won't run without 12v.

What kind of camera do you have that needs that much capacity?

Agree on all points here, particularly the 2800 mah part that the AA batteries claim.

These are the AA batteries I am running in my Covert. They still only last me 3-4 weeks with the Covert solar panel. I am taking 120-150 pictures a day though?

I'm not familiar with that brand of batteries. I run the Eneloop batteries in my Covert and I take and send about the same amount of pics as you. Mine has been out since January with the covert solar panel and it's only died once when the coons yanked the wire out of the camera and disconnected the solar panel.

With that config my battery meter on the pics only show 6?

I built an external power supply for my Cuddeback Capture several years ago. 6v battery in an ammo can with a solar panel attached. ran the wires through flex conduit. Works like a champ--outlived the Cuddeback.
