Release issue, trouble staying on target.

Just as an FYI for anyone struggling to stay consistent on target and getting annoyed.

MY brother (member here, never posts) was having this issue recently that came out of no where really. He had changed his rest while back but it still didn't make any sense the way his arrows were scattering around the target.

My brother has always been a good shot and I was puzzled as well when we were shooting together.

He finally noticed during a shot that he release hung up a bit enough to make him notice that he pulled to the direction the arrow went when it did not release smoothly.

Changed release and is back to driving tacks after about a month of scratching his head.

Make sure your release is releasing smoothly, could save you some time trouble shooting.

His was just wore out from alot of shooting over that past couple years

Hope this helps someone down the line.

This brings up a question for me.

How many actually know when they hit the release button.

I shoot OK, 4 or so inch groups at 40 yds. But I began to notice that often the arrow is on the way before I think or know I released, sort of like being the arrow or in the moment "zen" stuff.

Is this common/natural among others or do other have to think "release" or "now" before they shoot?

    Curious is all.

If you know when that release is going to go, then you are probably well on your way to a good case of target panic. A release should be s surprise, you know that it is going to go off, but it should still be at a point to where there is a little excitement when it does. With a surprise release you do not have time to drop your hand, throw the bow to the left or right or watch the arrow. With a surprise release, wherever that pin is when it goes off is where that arrow is going to hit.

Believe me when I tell you this about target panic. You may shoot extremely well by "punching" or setting off the release at a given moment, but it will catch up to you at some point in time.

TP is so bad, I really would not wish it on my worst enemy, well maybe, but it is horrible to have!

I shoot a trigger release with a 3 lbs trigger with back tension so I don't actually activate the trigger with my finger. It is not a command release but I have shot enough to know where my window is of when my release is going to go off. If I'm outside shooting in the wind I use a squeeze method as you would with a rifle. This is what I do for tournaments, for hunting I always squeeze
