    Single Pin vs. Multiple

Relatively young in the sport but have a traditional 4 pin set at 20 through 50 yds. Have used that for about a year. Been looking at a single, vertical pin sight with the dial you can set to exact yardage. Of course you have to stop and move then shoot. I've read about pro's and con's but still want real user thoughts. If you use a single pin, do you like it? Has it failed you?
I'm actually to the point where I'm on a lease and going to start doing more than just target practice.

I have used the hha optimizer for 3 years now an will not go back to a multi pin. The only trouble u had is the I forgot to move the dial one day after shooting at 60 yards an I missed a doe at 18 lol but other than that that's it. I have had deer move off or trot off an look back was able to move the dial an make the shot quick an easy.

I've shot both .. I prefer the multi pin because sometimes your shooting on the fly at a moving target . I like the single pin for 3D shoots.

Bump. I am in the market for a sight and have been looking at a single pin. I would love to hear what people think when using an adjustable single pin for hunting.

Shooting a single pin will make you a better shot. It cost me a 3d tournament a couple years ago, but in hunting situations, you can't beat the clear sight picture of a single pin.

I quit multi pins in about 93. Never went back. I missed many deer when I was very young by getting excited and using the wrong pin. I can also set mine at 25 and shoot out to 45. All it takes is a little practice. If I leave it at 20 it's easy to shoot out to 40. If I wanna shoot them stinkin black Buck at 75 I just dial it.

I went from multi pin to single pin, then to multi pin (because it was a great sight and came on the bow I bought), but my eyes aren't the best so i'm going back to a single pin this year. The multi pins were giving me a hard time in low light, so I just ordered this... http://bigbrowndoggear.com/shop/inde...&product_id=80 it's half the price of a HHA and over a pound lighter. Someone on the green screen actually highly recommended to me, I can give you feedback next week. Good luck!

This too, I set mine at 20 and don't shoot past 30, so for the way I hunt it works perfect, shoots from 10 to 25 almost the same and I aim about 2 inches high at 30, but I have only taken one 30 yard shot in the last ten years.

While hunting I keep my sight set on 25 yards. At 20 yards it's a couple inches high at 30 yards a few inches low and at 40 yards about 10 inches low. This is incase I don't have time to adjust the sight if everything is happening fast. You just need to practice where to hold at those distances and it won't be a problem. I wouldnt shoot past 40 yards using that method but thats just me. If I have time obviously I dial it in for the exact yardage. Never had any problems with the single pin and the clear sight picture is what sold me. My multipin sight had the pins very close together and was difficult to see cleary.

The sight picture on a single pin sight is what sold me on the HHA Optimizer Lite, I won't ever go back to a multi pin.

I switched to single pin 2 years ago and love it. Sight picture is great. Plus if allows you to practice at most ranges without adding a bunch of pins

I use a one pin sight with a .10 clear fiber down pin. I also use a .180 lolly pop to frame the pin. I use CBE scope and a Shrewed housing. Multiple pins cluster on me bad. I set it on 28 yards when hunting and know to aim high or low a bit. I like the down pin because it keeps the target below the pin in clear sight.

All being said I can tell you this. Since using one since I switched over 20 years ago I have yet to get into a situation to where I drew and had to change anything. Not even point of aim.

I use a MBG Ambush Ascend.

You may want to look into Spot Hogg. They recently came out with a single vertical pin with two fiber optics on it.

I have been shooting the Boss Hogg with a single pin for the past two years. Almost immediately I saw a difference. Groups tightened up and clarity through the window was unmatched. I just recently got in the new pin housing that has two fiber optics on it. I am still getting used to it but I can leave the pin set at 20 and shoot out to 30ish with my set up. Arrow speeds will obviously make this change from arrow set up to arrow set up. Got to make sure that all your arrows are as close as they can be to the same weight.

All in all I love it.
