    Arrow length question

    Hey gents,

I picked up some Beman Speed arrows on AT, the previous owner cut them to 27.5" inches, I have a 28.5" DL, there's about an inch that hangs over my rest and the broadhead and field point are right on the shelf. Should I be worried about possibly hitting my fingers? I know that sounds like a silly question, but I've always shot with my arrows a half inch to an inch past the arrow shelf, so having the broadhead in line or behind my hand makes me nervous. I went with a shorter arrow so I can try using a 125 grain broadhead instead of 100, looking to try to increase my FOC to see if it makes any difference in my accuracy. I'll try to get a picture of where my arrow is at in relation to the shelf tomorrow, thanks for any feedback in the meantime.

It's a matter of preference as long as the shorter arrow does not interfere with the shelf or rest. Flex test your arrows, check your nocks and arrow ends for impact damage and rock on!

      Your fine.

Funny thing is you cut off 25g worth of arrow to add 25g worth of metal

I'm strategically moving those 25 grains to the very front! Least that's what I'm gonna tell myself.

In all honesty I just wanna play with a lighter arrow with more FOC than my current axis nano's.

            Arrow length question

I could potentially be shooting a 395-400 grain arrow at 295-300 fps with 16% FOC.

Sounds like a pretty awesome setup for mule deer and whitetail.

Will stick with the axis nano's when hunting elk.

              There's a thread on that :-)

Assuming DL is correct on your bow, A 28.5 Dl will have a TRUE draw of 26.75"
I typically cut arrows to the TRUE draw of the bow.
Most arrowrests have a 1" overdraw, and this should give you 1" past your rest.
Without seeing the bow and arrow, I'm thinking you will be fine.

I'm going to build a black eagle x impact with a 150 head. Should be around 410 with 20%. Cut at 27" or 27.5"

Don't be a sissy. Throw that light broadhead away. Get a real mans head. 240 gn.

Nice talking to you the other day

You are ahead of the curve if you know this already. You have the right approach, the speed is a great arrow to build FOC with since it has a very low GPI across the spine ranges. I used to shoot the 340's at 8.1 GPI which is pretty light.

For the money I think the speed arrow is a bargain for what I'm trying to achieve. I ran one through a doe in OK this last year at 36 yards and got a clean pass through. Have been sold since then.
