    Oil on Bow Strings

I was recently given a product to try out but I'm a bit nervous. I received gun oil, fishing reel oil & bow string oil. I am hesitant about using bow oil on the actual strings. I know you can oil the cams/wheels but what about the string? Currently I use wax like most. I asked the company about it & they said they use it themselves & it's good because it penetrates each fiber & it helps with waterproofing. but I'm still not sure. Any thoughts?

I would be EXREMELY concerned about using it. To me, "oil" + synthetic fibers = no bueno. What's the name of the product ?

What is the name of the product? We would like to check it out.

I would not put oil on my string though. Wax penetrates each fiber and also waterproofs; not sure why you would want something else to do that when wax does a good job of it already.

Do you know how to strop the string to get the wax to penetrate the string fibers?

        Watch this if not:
        Waxing your string

Also, when oiling the bow (not the string) be careful. Oil will pick up debris (dust and pollen) and could cause premature wear of the lubricated surfaces. I use graphite dust for lubrication because of this.

It's wolf premium oils. They state the oil can be used for all parts of the bow if needed. I only wax my string & yes heat it/use leather. Never had problems with my string. I don't put oil on my bow anyway just keep them clean & free of dirt & dust. But for a product review that's what I'm supposed to do but I will prob only use the gun & fishing reel oil & decline on the bow oil. It's too risky to me. Thanks for the answers. Let me know if anyone has any other opinions.

It says it can be used on the string. I may get some an d try on my string; it's close to being replaced anyway.

Might be a cool new thing, never know.

Yeah I read that & the owner says he has had a lot of positive reviews but I'm hesitant. My strings are still fairly new so hard to try it out right now.

Never heard of the stuff. But if some one on here is brave enough to give it a shot, please let us know. I'm kinda of curious now.

I don't know about the other but all Scorpion Venom products are made for bow strings. They even have a cleaner. I don't use factory strings so I make sure to take care of my customs. This stuff works great.

Does it come off as a spray during the shot? Probably wouldn't be good with a lens or wearing glasses.

20 years here bowhunting and daily on hunting web sites to feed my addiction and this is the 1st time I've read about using an oil on bowstrings. I would not.

I would also be hesitant to oil the bearings/ axles simply because oil attracts grit and dust and eventually will gum up. My 2 cents on the topic. I have tapped powdered graphite into mine in the past.

Thanks for the input. I advised them I wasn't going to use it. I did really like the gun oil & cleaner though. Was able to clean guns without passing out from the smell of solvent!
