    Noob: Sighting in new sights

With my first bow (Bear Domain) I purchased a Trophy Ridge Alpha v5 that I've had to lower the vertical adjustment to the lowest possible position on the sight to keep from having to bottom out my pins.

My concern, unvalidated because I haven't purchased broadheads yet, is that this puts the bottom of the sight dangerously close to not leaving clearance for any fixed blade broadheads I might end up using.

On top of that, I'm so new I don't know what other concerns I should have besides broadhead clearance being the obvious one...

    Thoughts?

    What is your new bow?

I'm trying to understand your set up.

I'm reading that you keep lowering your sight, but have your furthest pins at the bottom of your sight?

Seems to me there is a slight issue somewhere? Maybe your anchor point? I don't know if I have ever seen any one with a sight that low before?

Either that or you have like an 80 yard pin?

I need to see a picture to see this clearly I think.

Sounds like you have a combination of a high anchor point and a low peep. You likely need to lower your anchor point and raise your peep a little. As hillary noted above a quick photo could explain a lot.

My initial response, based on what you are describing, is to take it in to a shop (a real shop, not a box store) and get it tuned up and fitted for you. See if they will do it while you're around, and get some pointers on good shooting form and habits while you're at it.

You may spend a few bucks, but once you're stacking arrows on top of one another, you will see it as money well spent. There is a good shop in Lewisville (All Star), not sure what else is near you.

You bought a good first bow, now to get it set so you can succeed.

Sorry for the poor phrasing. My first / new / only bow is a Bear Domain that came "bare" . I purchased the TR Alpha v5 from Amazon and mounted it and spent a couple of weeks sighting in my top pin at 10/20 yards per some wiki I read. At 20 yards, my top pin has 1 "tick line" showing in the adjustment shaft. I went to sight in at 30 yards and I basically had to bottom out my second pin in order to not hit several inches low consistently. So that's when I went to look at moving the sight the last 1/4" available in it's vertical adjustment.

I'll figure out how to get some pics attached here directly...

It certainly could be an anchor point problem or one of many potential newbie issues plaguing someone a mere 1 month into his newfound archery addiction.

I'd aslo check to make sure the center serving is tight and not sliding up the string. This happend to me and drove me crazy messing with my sight trying to figure it out.

I just realized that when I slid this down that my sight looks "off" on the last picture, but I have not shot it since I moved it down and will level that back out before shooting again..

                Yes, Something is not right.
Like stated above, I bet it is a peep issue that is stemming the whole problem, but it looks like your sight isn't correctly installed either.

Simply, I would take it to a pro shop, You might have to pay a little more, but you can get educated on how to fix this problem in the future.

Are you sighting in with the top pin or bottom?
