    Arrow Slection...

I just got a new Energy 35 and right now I am shooting the Hexx Finished weight is 409-410 and with no tune and all the cable and string leeches was running 281-282 which is plenty fast for me. But I am going to try the Black Eagle arrows and have 3 possible arrow set ups.

    1. Carnivore
    7.5 gpi x 29.75"=223.12
    18 g vanes
    20 g nockturnal
    100 g BH
    42 g Brass Insert

    Gives me 403.12 finished weight

    2. Zombie Slayer
    8.0 gpi x 29.75"=238g
    18g vanes
    20g nockturnal
    100 BH
    42g brass insert

    Gives me 418g finished weight

    3. Rampage
    8.2 gpi x 29.75"=243.95g
    18g vanes
    20g nockturnal
    100g BH
    56g outsert

    Gives me 437.95 finished weight

My question is the extra 14 grains up front going to give me great gains in penetration with the Rampage set up vs. the Carnivore or Zombie set up? This is going to be a dual arrow for both hogs and deer. I am not going to build a different set of arrows for either animal. Thanks for any input!

Probably not even noticeable. Back in the day we did some backyard experiments with broadhead weights and found that between 85 and 100 grains there was no appreciable difference. However, it MAY fly better due to improved FOC and there is a school that says heavier in front does produce more momentum; even if it is a very small amount.

Great gains in penetration? Probably not.
    Some improvement? Probably.
Enough to measure or notice in the field? Possibly but doubtful.

I would shoot the heavier arrows though. I want my arras to hit like hammer!

Well I am leaning to the Zombie Slayer of 418g on a calculator I should be around 300 fps with .558 momentum I feel this would be a happy medium for it all.

Any of them are gonna work fine here in Texas for what we are shooting. Pretty much any whitetail. All of the arrow stuff gets more critical when going to much bigger game.

Personally I would save your money and just shoot the HEXX.

I don't like the weight I generally like a 400-430 grainer finished weight

I'm jealous of your primate arms, my T-Rex arms 28" draw really holds me back
300 fps with that weight arrow is going to slam into any hog or deer and zip right through them, provided your bow is tuned. Otherwise it'll look like a Mathews Creed at 26" and 50#

14 grains will gain between 1-2% foc depending on the overall set-up. not much but a gain is a gain.

I know right! HAHAHAHA it seems to be tuned up well great arrow flight to 50 and BH are spot on, and I wouldn't go as far to say you have T-Rex arms, more like dwarf under 28" is T-Rex!

If the Hexx shoot for you, I'd stick with them. If you want to bump their weight you can use brass inserts and UNI nock bushings to give them some extra weight. By the time you do all that though why not just jump to a slightly heavier arrow? Just remember adding that weight up front for FOC and total weight is also decreasing the spine of the arrow.

I choose the Rampages'. They flew well out of my vector turbo and seemed pretty tuff. I didn't want to build two sets of arrows either this year so I decided to go with the heavier rampages instead of the zombie slayers. To get my foc up I elected to go with the stainless steel half outsert

I understand what your saying but I don't wanna spend the money to keep shooting the hexx. Yes they fly well but I can't afford that kind of money when I could have just as good of luck with a less expensive arrow with similar specs

A lower cost alternative might be Deer Crossing Arrows. For me (shooting a crossbow) they grouped a bit better than the BEE's. Can't say how they would work for you, but I know of a couple of other x-bow shooters whose experience is like mine.

If you decide to try some, code Joe53 will get a 10% discount on any order.

Hope to shoot a few hogs this summer to give them a good workout.
