    fletching my own arrows

Been thinking about starting to fletch my own arrows....any advice and or trade secrets from the grren screen

I say go for it! Been fletchings my arrows for the last two years and it's fun! You get to customize them just as you like, and it's always cool to kill something you helped make!

get A good jig I started off using cheaper ones but now I only use my bitzenburger. The ez fletch is a good option too I just always make a mess when I use mine so I stick with the bitz.

This is wisdom! The fletch base just needs to look "wet". Don't try and put a bead of glue on it's too much!

I apply glue with a toothpick.

I think I have a lot to learn in the "less is more" category....firts couple I tried looked like crap, cleaned them off then came here for advice.

I'll have to work on that toothpick idea.

what kind of jig are you using?
                  what kind of vanes?
                  arrows?
                  glue?
I've done all my own arrows for the past 10 years.
you'll have to excuse the 2 different color combinations.

not sure of the name of the jig....EZ Fletch mini, I think.
Gold tip arrows, blazer vanes and goat tuff glue

Get a couple of the ez fletch minis if using blazer type vanes. Rough up the wrap or shaft where vanes will be with a scotch brite pad. Prep that area and clean vane base with denatured alcohol. Just enough glue on vane base not a line of glue. I use fletch tite platinum and the super glue gels. Good luck. Also, if you want custom wraps look at onestringer arrow wraps. Lots of ideas and options.

I have had problems with that fletch tite platinum glue, and i'm very careful to get everything right. I had to re-fletch a dozen arrows last time i used it.

Thanks for the advice....I think the "little dab" of glue is gonna be my downfall

Best glue I found was the loctite ultra control gel. Put a small dot on the top middle and bottom and spread it out with a tooth pick. I use the ez fletch and quick spins and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes before opening it. Then I put a small dab of glue on the top and bottom of the vane. I did some blazers for a buddy. Here are the results of both.
