    Helical or offset???

I am not sure of the difference between helical and offset fletchings. I had bought some gold tip xt hunter 5575/400 that came straight fletched and had a couple that needed to be refletched after shooting them awhile. The local bow shop put on blazer vains with I think an offset but maybe a helical on them not sure which. I noticed when I have shot out at 50yds to 70yds that the arrows with the helical or offset on them were much more accurate and grouped way better. Not sure if it matters but my arrows are cut at 27.5", i have a 28" draw, and I am pulling back 65Lbs on a Prime Shift. I would like to be able to buy arrows that came with the offset or helical fletchings instead of buying prefletched or bare shafts and then taking them to a bow shop to have them put on offset or helical fletching. I dont have any tools or arrow saw to do it myself. It would be nice to be able to stock up one one style/type/brand for practice and hunting that wasn't extremely expensive. I was wondering if anybody knew of a good brand that sold arrows that came with the offset or helical fletchings at like an academy or gander mountain??

Odds are the originals you bought had offset fletching, and maybe the shop put on helical. The majority of the pre fletched arrows will be offset, because it is easier to mass produce. You can get a good fletching jig like the bohning one made for blazers that is helical, and do your own pretty cheap.

      Thanks!
I looked at all the 1/2 dozen boxes of prefletched shafts at Academy and Gander Mountain there was only 1 at Gander that were off set and all th rest were straight fletched. That one was I think an easton arrow with blazer vaines. I am sure the people around me thought I was pretty weird opening up every box lol.

Helical makes a big difference with fixed blade heads. A well tuned bow and expandables you can shoot about any vane angle.

ok cool deal i shoot fixed blade broadheads. The offset blazer vains made a big difference with field points at 50+ yds.

I was having issues with my destroyer 350 and broadheads, helical fixed it and was good out to 70 yards now I only use helical; even on my 60# dxt.

My suggestion (since I'm cheap) go on eBay. Buy an Arizona ez fletch with helical for carbon arrows (cheapest I found) and buy the blazer vanes from eBay too $23ish for 100 vanes. You can get tiger stripe vanes and mix the colors. Then you just buy the denatured alcohol, razor blade and super fine sand paper. All in all you'd be in $80-100 then you can repair all the ones you bust because you'll be much more accurate.

To top it off you can fletch your friends for a few $ and make your money back. I've done 30+ arrows on my ez fletch and have had none fail unless I shot it off.

Good luck; I know you were looking at buying new ones, but for the money you'd spend on arrows this should save a lot of $$$$$

Ok so is there an actual difference between offset and helical or is offset just helical at a minimal degree???

From what I understand (not smart about this just did little reading) helical had a "twist" to the vanes and offset is straight but crooked if that makes sense. I can get the Arizona ez fletch jig for $40tyd able to get two at this time.

Helical usually has more turn. Offset may be somewhere between 1 or 2 degrees from straight down the center. As mentioned earlier, an Arizona ez fletch mini (helical) will put more turn on your fletch if you are using blazers. Don't quote me, but I think it is about 8 degrees. If you are using 3 or 4 inch vanes, you would need the standard Arizona EZ fletch (right or left helical)

I was told Offset had one vane set back, causing the arrow to true out faster. Helical twist will true out quicker than straight fletch. Jigs are cheap and give me a feeling of pride that Im doing it my self.
