Did you know limb dampeners can go bad?

I shoot a 2005 Hoyt with split limbs. The camo paint on the limb dampeners (if that is the correct term) had turned gooey, and would rub off/stick to anything that touched them.

I was tired of that, so I bought some replacements. To my surprise, the bow got significantly quieter, and the hand shock practically gone.

The on inspection, the old dampeners had deteriorated to the point they were more like foam, rather than stiff rubber. They came off the bow very easily, whereas the new ones were difficult to put back on.

For the folks that upgrade bows every year, this won't ever be a problem. For my fellow cheapskates, it is something to keep in mind.

Had the same problem and my bow technician told me Simms had a bunch go bad as you described. I sent them an e-mail and received 2 sets (1 black and one camo) in the mail the next week. They get a big thumbs up from me for their customer service. I like a company that stands behind its products.

it was the dye or paint they used to color them. The brown was usually the color that caused some type of chemical reaction that ate the rubber into a gooey substance.

That is exactly what happened. The brown camo paint turned to a sticky goo, and the under lying rubber decomposed.

I had the same thing happen with a stabilizer and the stick on limb savers. I contacted limb savers about it. They said that they had some items that the rubber was not cured properly. Asked for my mailing address and sent me some replacements.
