    New bow or older matthews?

Relatively green here. Went to local shop and they were trying to sell me a new PSE brute over searching for a used Matthews. However, they did not deal in used bows. Curious to know what the consensus would be? Budget of 400 or possibly more for the right bow. Thanks for the help.

At that price limit I would search used also.....but wouldn't be set on a Mathews. Open your mind and pick the one you like...not the one that a commercial tells you that you like. And if it happens to be Mathews, so be it.

I've seen several great bows for $400

From Bowtech allegiance to destroyer 340 and 350. Lots of great bows out now just shoot some.

The problem with used bows is finding a person or a store with an assortment for you to try. It sounds like good advice to shoot as many as you can, but really isn't a realistic approach for many of us. You are probably going to have take a chance on a bow based on it's reputation if you are buying used. I probably bought 25 to 30 compounds before deciding that I really like the Mathews bows. I would have been money ahead to just go try out what is available locally and buy new. But I did have a lot of fun going he way I did.

Bueller, go to CCR and shoot their package bows. Try the Hoyt Charger and Mission line from Mathews. I think you can get into a bow, ready to hunt, for around a little bit more than $400. Otherwise, as was stated, you may just have to take a chance and buy something without shooting it first. High risk, high reward.

No, CCR didn't make me uncomfortable, and i would recommend others to go there. I think i may have given them the impression i wouldn't buy something when i said i was interested in used bows. But if i would have been sold a bit, i may have bought something there. They showed me the PSE and we didn't get very far after that. Probably my fault as well for not knowing exactly what i was looking for. I guess i was just looking to be educated a little more.

Another vote for Jim at Alvarado. I've bought 6 bows from him now.

I'd search on here for great used bow for that price.

BTW, the worst investment you can make is buying a new bow.
Besides the tippy top of the lines out there, they'll loss a 1/4 of their value as soon as you walk out of the door, probably another 1/4 as soon as its fired, and about another 1/16 of the value every year it gets older.

Buy a good used one to start out. That's my advice.

Don't get a mind-set of "Mathews" or "Hoyt" or any such brand until you've shot a bunch of them. Then decide which bow is "right" for you. Then you can tackle the issue of new versus used. Personally, I can't see paying the mfr's current insane prices for new bows when you can buy a 2-3 year old model for half the price or less and still have an upgrade. But, that's just my opinion.

X2, Jim has been helping me a bunch since I am new to this, guy knows his stuff and always willing to help with whatever it takes for me to get out with my bow, and they have quite a few nice used bows (probably 15-20) right now, I thought about it but went new just for the warranty cuz I tend to screw things up a lot

All I can say is try and shoot as many different bows as you can to get an idea of which brand you prefer. Then you can search for a used bow by that brand.
