    Mathews and Hoyt Pros/Cons?

So I'll admit it,I'm pretty OCD when it comes to dropping over 1K for a new bow so i decided to approach this thread a little different. I have been shooting Mathews for awhile and love it,but kind of always had a hankering to give Hoyt a shot. At the end of the day I know it will simply come down to shooting both brands and deciding what fits me better but there are other reasons why I choose a brand such as innovation, reliability and what the company stands for.So i decided to come up with pros and cons. Can you guys help fill in the gaps on what I may not know about Mathews and Hoyt such as anything on Cam design, rollers, strings, tournament wins, charities, company policies, service, company platform. Anything would be helpful.

    Thanks guys

    Mathews Pros
    1) Matt McPherson is a christian man and has made it clear in his company his values and beliefs. One such example is the proceeds from his Lost Camo pattern go towards christian missionaries.

    2) Mathews quality is amazing and their customer service is outstanding.

    3) IMHO the gridlock pattern makes a extremely awesome visual appeal plus I love the stabilizer options.

    4) Mathews is ridiculous in how quite they are.

    5) Extremely smooth.

    6) A lot of professionals rely on the Mathews bow.

    Mathews Cons

    1) Doesn't offer a carbon fiber riser.

    2) Only comes in one Camo pattern.

    3) Has not been in the game as long as Hoyt.

    4) Not to crazy about both the wood or Focus grip.

    5) Does not offer a standard limb dampener like Hoyt.

    6) Does not have a very good back wall.Wants to creep on you if your not paying attention(referring to Chill).

    Hoyt Pros

    1) Has been in the game longer than Mathews.

    2) Offers Carbon Riser.

    3) Seems to have a better back wall than Mathews, seems shooter can relax a little more once fully drawn.

    4) Seems their technology is a little ahead of everyone else.

    5) Offers a standard shock absorption for limbs.

    6) Wide variety of color options.

    7) I have heard the RKT cam is amazing.

    Hoyt Cons

    1) I know nothing on the owners beliefs or values. Is he christian? What charities or community help does Hoyt do?

    2) Not to crazy about the selection of stabilizers that coincides with Hoyt.

    3) I know nothing on their customer service.

As you can tell I don't know a lot about Hoyt but i hear people swear by them.Any facts about Hoyt that may help me make my decision would help. Thanks

I hunt with a bunch of die hard Hoyt boys...they swear by them. I recently switched from PSE to the Mathews Creed after shooting both Hoyt and Mathews. I just liked the draw and feel of the Mathews better. I also hear that Mathews customer service is second to none. I don't think you can go wrong with either one though! Personally, I liked the Focus grip over the wood grip though for sure.

There was a thread just the other day about the same thing. Might want to do a search. I have had a mathews DXT and now have a Hoyt Vector 32. My DXT was nice and I know Mathews has newer bows now but the Hoyt seems to shoot a lot better for me. Some people like the cam and half that hoyt has over the single cam from mathews. They are both great bows and like you said yourself you will just have to go to a bow shop and shoot several to see what you like. One thing I dont understand is what you are saying about stabilizer. Any stabilizer should fit any bow.

I'm guessing your a Christian and like to look at that. That's great, but that is like buying only made in USA. Going to be very hard. Mathews no carbon but they have the helium that is just as light. I believe mathews has a solid wall. McPherson doesn't. (Chill). All made by Mathews. But if cams are in sync it's not that bad and you do get used to it. Hoyt I like hoyt for there cams. I'm short draw and they make a cam for that. There are a lot pros cons for both you just have to shoot and pick the one that is best for you. That may not be either one of them. I shoot bow tech and mathews. I go for speed since I'm a short draw the still shoot heavy arrows 550 gn what I would like to see is a cam like bowtech overdrive but in a short draw version that would ibo around 320 at 26 in.

IMO, if you want to contribute to a Christian organization, send them money but you're doing yourself a disservice if you choose Mathews over Hoyt because of the owner's faith. If you've got them dead even and the faith is the tipping point, I can see it but it seems you listed more positives on the Hoyt side. You have to shoot that bow everyday, so get the one you like best regardless of faith.

As far as which one is better....I think you're pretty spot on in the pros and cons except that Hoyt is ahead of everyone in technology. I like the Spyder series from Hoyt and I've been a fan since 2009. You literally can't go wrong with either, flip a coin and you're a winner either way. Good luck.

The guy who got me into bow hunting comes from a long line of Mathews shooters. However, I just couldn't afford one. I started with a bear and then upgraded to a Hoyt Alphamax 2 years ago and I love it. Very smooth draw, great speed, great balance. Bow technology has come so far as long as you spend a couple hundred bucks your going to have something lethal in your hands. If you can afford the best you might as well go for it, if not, there are plenty of bows out there that will get the job done for a lot less money.

I started bowhunting 34 yrs ago with a Hoyt and they make an awesome bow.I've been shooting Mathews for about 15yrs now and really like them.I've owned a few Hoyts in that time and I'm not sure what it is but they were louder and not as clean(seemed like alot more cables, bars, etc. in the way)! The Mathews solo-cam just always had a cleaner look and feel to me and the quiet part means alot to me.You can't go wrong either way they are both awesome bows!

Yeah gotta just wait till both brands come out with their 2014 line up. Unless Mathews just impresses the crap out of me with their line up im going to give Hoyt a shot.

Hoyts are top notch built. Always have been.

Mathews, you will have the best advertising campaign behind you ever. Deer will fall over dead left and right as soon as they see that Mathews Logo. So some fanboys believe anyway. Ive owned zero hoyts, and 4 mathews. So take it for what thats worth.

For me, Hoyt has a much better feel on the draw, and the back will is indeed better. I have shot the creed and vector 32 side by side, and I went home with the vector. I have always leaned toward hoyt for the draw cycle, and I absolutely love my vector. That being said, if bowtech can get as smooth of a draw as hoyt with what I think is the best back wall in the business, they will have my business for life.

A little birdie told me Hoyt's 2014 lineup is gonna be something special......I can neither confirm nor deny those allegations though.
