? For you arrow guru's, FMJs...

So I got a dozen new Easton FMJs 400's yesterday, and shoot multiple shots with f points and Ramcats. Before I shot easton axis 400's with a total weight of 408grns of I remember correctly. Well funny thing is, the FMJs shot dead on without any turning at all, they actually shoot better! Why did I not have to change my sights and such? The FMJs are 10.2gpi and the axis were 8.6gpi. Both cut to 27.5 with 100gr tips and blazer vanes. Any insight?

Just some quick math...about 44-45 gr added. Ain't a whole lot at close range. I would bet at 40-50yrds maybe start showing 3-4" drop.... just a guwss .

I Xan take out 100gr and fo125gr and still be dead on (with FP )at 30-35 yards

Ok. I guess I'll try to stretch out of tonight.. If it matters I shoot at Mathews ZXT 27.5 draw at 70lbs.

Just in my experience a gain or loss of around 15fps is needed to close or spread pin gap on MOST hunting sights. Longer target type sights react sooner.

I shoot a single pin HHA.

Not as much of a drop as everyone thinks (see the chart courtesy of Javi, I believe) You did good going to a heavier arrow and don't sacrifice the flattness everyone thinks

Why does the speed and ke change in that chart with each range? Yeah I believe these fmj's shoot better out of my ZXT. Plus it is quieter and even less hand shock than the almost zero I had before.

Because the arrow slows down more as it travels farther. When velocity decreases, so does KE.

                      Yep.

Drag on the arrows fletching, rotation, wind drag all sluff off speed...speed is the #1 factor in ke.

Ah. Dang. I never thought of it like that. So when we chrono or bows, it's only telling us speed at the bow not at target. Dang. I feel dumb now! Ha. I guess I just never thought about it.

FMJ's are awesome arrows, but I only shoot them out of my Bowtech Insanity. I have a 20" x 20" block target and every time I shoot at the left or right side of the target, it shifts about three to four inches. Plus I do like the way that they pull out of targets easier than carbons.

Why only out of your insanity? Yeah, reminded me of the good old Easton aluminum arrows we all used to sling!

Yep...that chart and info is EXACTLY why chasing 20 or 30 fps on a bow is a giant waste of time.
