Should you BH tune even if you shoot mechanicals?

I saw someone having broad head tuning issues on another thread and I thought that you might not even know you're having those issues if you shoot mechanicals. So should you BH tune before you slap a mech on your arrows and go into the field?

I think you should just because not being in tune can cause penetration issues. Also if I spend lots of money on my setup I want to see its full potential.

I only tune for the specific head I am going to use that season. Mechanicals will usually fly like field points so it's the shooters decision.

I worry more about my arrows and how each one flys with a specific head. I know my 2 arrow is my best with shuttles and number 4 will only be used for hogs with a rage.

So since I hear that Slick Tricks fly really good most of the time, should I tune for Slick Tricks and then put the Grim Reaper on there that I'm gonna hunt with?

I say tune with whatever you are gonna shoot, regardless d whether it is a mechanical or not. Your bow's full potential won't be reached if you don't tune, which means you won't get the penetration you could having tuned properly. One things have noticed though, is my rage broadheads have never caused me to change a thing on my set up

guys say I shoot mechanical because they shoot out the box like my FP but then complain about penetration.

I will promise that a mechanical out of a well tuned bow will blow through an animal and will certainly maximize it's potential. I never understand spending a fortune on a bow and then being stubborn with the hour it takes to tune your bow to perform.

Yep!!! Even mechanicals have blades exposed which can still cause plaining issues. I did an experiment last week to prove some friends that it's still important to tune bow. My nock was tearing only 1/4" right through paper. Sighted in to 60yds with FP. Screwed on practice NAP Killzones and shot 50yds. They hit 2" left of FP so proper tuning and walk back BH tune still critical. Also will increase penetration with a tuned bow shooting FP and BH both hitting same spot.

Not only tune, but spin. I have tested and there is always the possibility of a bent ferrule to deal with. Found that out when I was not as experienced and tried to tune and one just would not tune.

What are yalls take on the practice tip for the rage broadheads? This will be my first year shooting mechanicals so tuning up for them is a must. Im sure the manufacturer did a good job making the practice tip fly just like the BH itself, but just wanted yalls opinions.

I still think everyone should tune with fixed blades first.. Just my opinion but field tip and mechanicals can hide problems with your setup
