What happens when you move your sites forward

What I mean is does it make a difference when mounting your sites if they stick out in front of bow or close up to the bow. I have seen some where the site seems to be 8-10 inches out where my sites are 3 inches from bow. Whats the difference if any?

Looking for some education on this matter.

Gives you a longer sight plane. I really can't explain why it is, but I bet someone with the explanation will be along shortly.

I have read that some like to make it where when they look through their peep sight, the frame of the sight is more or less blocked by the ring of the peep so all you see is pins. Helps to know when you are at your normal knocking point and helps accuracy. Also, being further out seems to help with tighter groups. Or so i've read...

The further out gives you a longer sighting plane which is inherently more accurate, BUT increases pin-gap and gives you a shakier pin.
Closer gives the impression you're holding steadier, each pin covers more yardage.
I like mine close, so I can use a large peep to line my housing up, and allow each pin to cover a little more yardage.

Ok I don't need a shakier pin. I can't keep it still close up. I would like to increase pin gap, as my 20 and 30 are very close, and 40 is pretty close. Interesting, learn something new every day.

Its just like a pistol and a rifle the longer the sight plan the more accurate the gun. It doesn't make your pin more or less shakey but it does give the illusion they are more shakey. I think this makes you focus more and increases accuracy.

The real question is the increased accuracy worth $200 bucks for a new site. I have looked at the 6 in spott hog and the 6 in black gold both are over $200.

Does anyone know of a cheaper long sight.

I personally shoot better when I center my individual pin to my peep and not the circular ring around my pins.

same effect as a handgun vs a rifle...more accurate (rifle) cause you're lining up a front and rear sight with a longer line between the two...
