    Cracked nocks

Is cracked or breaking nocks an indication of anything? As far as a bow being out of whack?

I took my bow in to my local shop for a walk back tune, picked it up today and the kid at the counter pulled a post it note from the tech and read it verbatim to me "all arrows have cracked or broken nocks. Tell customer he needs to replace" I asked "well what does that mean?" He gave me the good ol shoulder shrug and I dunno look.

Bow is 2010 Elite Judge, CE Mayhem 350 arrows.

    Thanks guys.

What happened if ya don't mind, never had it happen. I'm hoping its not like a dry fire, I'm thinking if the nock breaks the string would basically be "unloaded" if the string couldn't push the arrow.

Does it happen while shooting? While target shooting are you aiming for the same bullseye and possibly hitting your nocks with your field points? Ive had this happen to me before I realized it can get pretty expensive replacing them over and over lol

A nock blowing during a shot is can be equal to a dry fire.
You should always check all carbon shafts and nocks regularly for cracks and damage. I would suppose you can see the damage to the nocks. If not they should be able to show you.
Your thread indicates the shop personell did the shooting and tuning. How can this bow be tuned to your grip?

Nock damage can occur from a lot of sources. Age, collisions, heat, sun light, but the most common cause is the surving on the string is too fat and forces the nock ears apart too much. Correct the serving, don’t let someone talk you into sanding the nocks to fit you will only create scratches and stress risers in the plastic and they will fail again.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe the nocks are just old and stressed from shooting. I don't think it's the serving being too fat. I reserved my string and made it smaller because it took quite a bit of force to get the nock off the serving.

At any rate, new nocks are installed all the way round. Thanks

x2 Archery isn't like guns the bow has to be tuned to you..

Check nocks before shooting, just like flexing carbon arrows.
I use to replace nocks every year when I shot a lot.

I think the transparent nocks crack easier than the solid color ones do.

Thanks for posting this. I have been having this same problem this year. I have about a dozen practice arrows. I have had 4 split or break on fire. Each of them have been the see thru plastic variety. I also store them loose in a garage. So I think heat, age and type have played a roll after reading others suggestions.

When mine split it was basically like a dry fire. Shredded my bow.

Try Bohning Signature or Easton nocks in the solid colors.
I have been using both for years with out any problems.
