TXArt and I were shooting the proverbial Chit in PM earlier and he asked me about a certain piece of archery equipment that I've seen but never seen used. Any of you guys shoot fobs and are they worth it? I shoot an MR5 - would they work with my bow? I like my Blazers but an always open to the pros and cons of a new product! Your input GS...?!

Let me put it this way.
I dislike them. Yet I'm still using them. Sounds crazy I know, but as of september last year, I was having the worst time getting my monster tuned to shoot the NAP bloodrunner 2 blade. I had owned a Mathews Heli-m earlier last year that I bought brand new, and the fobs and the Heli-m did not get along. I wound up talking to Paul, and he made some suggestions. I talked to some dealers, and it was a rather large hassle to deal with, so the fobs got shelved. Long story short, I sold the Heli-m.
So back to the bloodrunners. I had the bow paper tuned, walk back tuned, etc. Could not for the life of me get 3 blazers with a 5 degree helical to fly right past 30 yds. I had a package of fobs laying around and said to heck with it, ill try em. Well... they work.
They are louder than fletching (my buddy calls them "whistler biscuits"). They pop off on pass throughs, or when they bump anything on the shot. You cannot use lighted nocks with them to find your arrow. You have to use a drop away rest, and if they're dropping much out past 30 yds, you dont have enough clearance. They are a bit expensive. Also, your local bow shop will roll their eyes when you say you want to shoot them, because getting clearance to shoot them can require a PHD if you don't know what youre doing, but Paul (the owner of Starrflight FOBs) is a great, and very knowledgable guy.
As much as I dislike them, they absolutely do what they are meant to do, and they are dead nuts accurate when nothing else I had tried would be. As it is right now, I'm getting perfect broadhead flight that hits right along with my field points out to 60yds with a 2 blade broadhead and FOBs out of my PSE DNA. I tried doing that with a 4 fletch to try to get around fobs... but Im back to shooting them again.Last edited by Kirby86; 04-15-2013, 01:01 AM.

If you are having trouble keeping on your arrow, you are doing something wrong. As far as having problems getting clearance, no trouble here. Never did a thing to my set up and they fly great. I would surmise that if you have trouble getting clearance with FOBS you are coming dang close to getting total clearance with any fletch. As far as the drop out past 30 yards, with my heavy arrows I saw no significant drop and they fly exactly like the Quik Fletch I have out to 65 yards! I love mine and doubt I will go back to regular fletching. Noise had not been a problem with me on animals here and in Africa. they are not for everyone and look ugly, but I do not mind!

They work, they fly great, no setup/clearance issues whatsoever, and I'm shooting them out of 2 diff bows. I've never noticed (nor have my friends commented on) any noise issues, either. They're definitely not for everyone, but I'm a fan and have been for almost 2 years now. Your mileage may vary, but just like anything else, you won't know for sure until you try them out for yourself.

IMHO they fly great, are a bit louder cutting through the air, and you definitely don't want to aim at the same spot when practicingI have found it is extremely easy to damage them when you stack arrows on a target close together
having said all this I have gotten away from using them due to a clearance issue on my bow and not having the enough knowledge to adjust for proper clearance... With my set up I found the FOB making contact with my rest occasionally and while the arrow that contacted the rest tended to straighten them selves quickly i found it quiet distracting.
