Ran across this video and felt it was share worthy. Not sure what caused his rope to fail, might have been the knot. Mother nature can be brutal on rope and other synthetic material. Wind blowing the rope against the tree causing it to fray along with UV deterioration is asking for disaster. Inspecting our lineman's rope and other fall systems should be second nature as checking our arrows.

OK, walking out with a head injury... really unsmart. I always get a good safety rope above the stand location prior to climbing up to hang my stand, and it still makes me nervous to the point where I want to have some stable support for both feet and two points of attachment. I did have a climber fall out from under me years ago, before safety harnesses were in vogue and found myself hanging from just a belt. I nearly suffocated to death. I look at that as my one and only warning. No deer is worth taking a chance.Last edited by ultrastealth; 04-03-2013, 11:53 AM.

I fell out of a 12' LADDER STAND!!!, in 1998! Got lucky. I landed just "right". Still hurt like hell. I was carrying a DeWalt up the ladder in my hand in the summer like a dumb ***. I reached to grab the side rail and got a handfull of camo material instead. I was 9 miles in of of US 277 just north of Loma Alta. If i hadnt landed just right i woulda laid there and died because it woulda been days before anyone came thru that 10,000 acre ranch where i was. Lesson learned the hard way.
